Midwestern University’s Chicago College of Veterinary Medicine Moves Closer to Opening

Midwestern University continues to build momentum toward launching the Chicago College of Veterinary Medicine (CCVM) on its Downers Grove Campus. According to Coretta C. Patterson, D.V.M., DACVIM-SA, PG Cert Vet Med Ed, Dean of the proposed College, the new academic building is scheduled for completion in April and will house classrooms, laboratory spaces, and a clinical skills center where students will begin developing hands-on veterinary skills. CCVM will offer a four-year Doctor of Veterinary Medicine program that emphasizes clinical experience, collaboration, and preparation for the realities of modern veterinary practice.

Construction is also progressing on the Companion Animal Clinic at 3000 Finley Road in Downers Grove, expected to open in spring 2027. The 152,000-square-foot veterinary teaching hospital will provide comprehensive small animal care using advanced technology and treatments as well as diagnostic pathology services, such as necropsy and histopathology. CCVM students will gain clinical experience beginning in the first year and continuing throughout the program. The clinic will be part of a broader Animal Health Institute that will also include a diagnostic pathology center and a large animal clinic planned for a farm site in Illinois.

The College recently created two short video tours of the new academic building (https://www.youtube.com/shorts/rS23tuCTs9I) with Dr. Patterson and the Companion Animal Clinic with Mark Joseph Acierno, D.V.M., M.B.A., DACVIM, Associate Dean of CCVM. (https://www.youtube.com/shorts/6QT7Ga_sZW0)

Midwestern University aims to be a good partner of the veterinary community by supporting local clinics and shelters and offering a range of specialty services. CCVM leaders have been visiting veterinary clinics throughout the region to share updates and hear directly from practitioners about the needs of the profession.

The College is also currently searching for an Associate Dean for Academic Affairs and expects to post additional D.V.M. faculty positions in early 2027. Additional information and employment opportunities can be found at midwestern.edu.
