Combat Illegal Xylazine While Protecting Veterinary Access

CVMA stays current with Government Affairs.  One topic that was covered during the February Hill fly-in which our representative, Dr. Karen Woodard, attended was combatting illegal xylazine while protecting Veterinary Access.

As AVMA states, “Collaborative efforts among congressional offices, the AVMA, stakeholders, and federal agencies led to the reintroduction of the Combating Illicit Xylazine Act (H.R. 1266/S. 545). Passing the House in the previous Congress, the bipartisan legislation would schedule xylazine as a Schedule III drug and amend the Controlled Substances Act to ensure the current veterinary uses of xylazine remain legal, as well as provide provisions to help maintain the availability of the drug on the market and track the legitimate supply.  Please support the passage of the reintroduced Combating Illicit Xylazine Act as it strikes the right balance of protecting our communities while preserving veterinary access to this essential animal drug.”

If you would like to have a voice regarding this matter to continue the momentum built from the sustained advocacy work of the veterinary community, consider writing to our Chicago representatives on the Hill:

Tammy Duckworth, U.S. Senator:  https://www.duckworth.senate.gov/connect/email-tammy

Dick Durbin, US Senator:  https://www.durbin.senate.gov/contact/email

Mike Quigley,  US Representative:  https://quigleyforms.house.gov/forms/writeyourrep/

If you like, you may submit your letter through CVMA at info@chicagovma.org.  We will submit all letters received to the legislative representatives.
