One of my passions within the Chicago Veterinary Medical Association is giving back to the community through our public outreach events. Every year our Public Education Committee participates in local events such as the Chicago White Sox Dog Days, Kovler Career Fair for high school students interested in pursuing careers in veterinary medicine, and our “Be a Vet for a Day” outreach events for elementary school children. If you are interested in participating in these events and representing the Chicago Veterinary Medical Association, please reach out to our staff about joining the Public Education Committee. I can say from personal experience that it is fun to interact with the public in such a positive way and also very gratifying to promote the veterinary profession within our community.

If public outreach isn’t your passion, but you are still interested in volunteering within the CVMA, we have many other committees you can join. Our membership committee works closely with our student representatives at the University of Illinois and our Governmental Relations Committee keeps abreast of any upcoming politics that may affect the practice of veterinary medicine in the Chicagoland area. For a full list of committees and more information on joining, please reference our website or reach out to our staff at cvma@chicagovma.org.
