Looking back at the past 12 months, it has been an exceptionally busy year. We have had to deal with may transitions both within our organization, with the on-boarding of a new Executive Director, but also in the world, with the continual challenge of COVID and moving to a “new normal”. Indeed, for me personally, it has been a most eventful period throughout, with my move to CVMA President and the concurrent birth of my first child, Grace, in December 2021.

Our success this year would not have been possible without the dedication of our Board members, Committee Chairs, Membership, as well as the strong leadership and hard work of our small, but mighty, staff at the office. At the end of December, I will hand over the reins of the President to President-Elect, Dr. Marina Jaworsky. Dr. Jaworsky has already begun organizing and planning for the year ahead. We will have some new and enthusiastic members joining the Board, along with some of the current Board Members continuing their term.

It is always with a bit of sadness that one has to say goodbye to a position and the people that made it possible. This is an amazing organization with such intelligent and wonderful members and to be lucky enough to have served as your President will be one of the most rewarding endeavors I have been given the opportunity to undertake. It truly was one of the highlights of my professional career.

I cannot thank the Board of Directors enough for their hard work in handling all of the challenges and transitions that we faced throughout this year. It is with this entire Board and their contributions to the CVMA, that the organization is what it is today. It has been an honor, a privilege, and a pleasure working alongside these hardworking, dedicated, and talented Board of Directors and CVMA staff.

So as the calendar page turns to a new year before we know it, let me say thank you. Thank you for your continued dedication, loyalty and support. It is a great honor to have led the CVMA this past year and I look forward to continued efforts to support veterinarians, the human-animal bond and animal welfare. Let us march into 2023 with pride of what we have accomplished and the drive to make the next year more amazing as we continue to advance the profession of veterinary medicine.

With very best wishes,

Dr. Kirsten Plomin
CVMA President
