POSITION VACANCY ANNOUNCEMENT

Full-time or Part-time, (50% - 100%), 12-month, Non-tenure-Track Instructor

The University of Illinois College of Veterinary Medicine Medical District Veterinary Clinic invites applications for a full-time (100%) or part-time (50%+), 12-month Instructor position in our companion animal practice.  The Medical District Veterinary Clinic is looking to expand into providing care for small animal exotics in addition to canine and feline patients.  

Professional Opportunities: This position will be located at the Medical District Veterinary Clinic, which is located in the Illinois Medical District, Chicago, Illinois.  The Medical District Veterinary Clinic is well-equipped with modern surgical and dental facilities, in-house laboratory, digital radiography, digital dental radiography and ultrasound. The Medical District Veterinary Clinic is located adjacent to Veterinary Behavior, a small specialty practice for canine and feline behavior.  This position will report to the Director of the Medical District Veterinary Clinic and is available on or about October 15, 2018, or as soon as possible following the close of the search. Salary is commensurate with experience and qualifications.

Qualifications: Candidates must possess a DVM or equivalent degree. Illinois licensure and two years of experience in a small animal exotic primary care practice is also preferred.  Hardworking, fast paced, engaging, and excellent communication/interpersonal skills are required.  Additional knowledge and skills in the areas of small animal exotic medicine and surgery along with general medicine of dogs and cats, preventative health care, and practice-level surgery and dentistry are also preferred.  Bilingual candidates are encouraged to apply as we serve a large Hispanic population.

Duties: The successful candidate will perform a high level of general practice on a number of species while working with a team of three primary care doctors.  The successful candidate will also work closely with the veterinary behaviorist and a board certified surgeon that performs surgeries in hospital as the demand requires.   Additionally, applicants need to have a desire to teach and mentor veterinary students on a daily basis.  Other responsibilities will include promoting the College of Veterinary Medicine through outreach within the Chicago area educational systems.
